About Me

Hi, I’m Angela. I’m an Edmonton artist, and I paint the places, moments, and experiences that become part of who we are.

I have always been drawn to colour. My paintings are filled with bold lines, expressive brushstrokes, and colours that are often a little brighter and more intense than what was actually there. I’m not trying to perfectly recreate a photograph. I want to paint what it felt like to be there.

Most of the places I paint are places I have experienced myself. They are trails I have walked, roads I have driven, neighbourhoods I know, performances I have watched, and landscapes where I have stood and thought, I need to remember this.

A lot of my work begins with an ordinary moment.

A walk through my Edmonton neighbourhood. A family trip to Jasper. Sitting in an audience waiting for a performance to begin. Looking out over the river valley. Driving home beneath an incredible Alberta sky.

Sometimes it is a grand landscape, but often it is something much smaller that catches my attention.

I think that is why memory and place have become such an important part of my work. Places hold pieces of our lives. A painting of Jasper might remind someone of a family vacation twenty years ago. An Edmonton street might remind someone of the neighbourhood where they grew up. A painting of Folk Fest might bring back the feeling of sitting on the hill on a summer evening.

Those connections matter to me.

Painting Alberta & the Places I Love

I live and work in Edmonton, Alberta, and much of my work is inspired by the places around me.

Edmonton's river valley, neighbourhoods and arts community appear again and again in my paintings, as do the Rocky Mountains. Jasper in particular is a place I return to often, both with my family and through my artwork.

But I don't only want to paint the postcard view.

I am just as interested in the trail leading there, the wildflowers growing beside it, the people gathered together, the view from the car, or the quiet moment that happened along the way.

Those are often the memories that stay.

Why I Paint

My Work

My style has developed into a combination of expressive colour, strong line work, visible brushstrokes, and a slightly heightened version of the world around me.

I want you to recognize the place, but I also want you to recognize the feeling.

And one of the best parts of being an artist is discovering that a place that means something to me can mean something completely different—but equally important—to someone else.

When someone chooses one of my paintings because it reminds them of somewhere they love, a person they shared it with, or a part of their own story, the painting gets to take on another life.

That still feels pretty incredible to me.
