There is something incredibly special about watching young musicians learn to create music together.
Wild and Sweet was painted in 2018 and inspired by a cello concert featuring Suzuki students and their teacher. I was drawn to the relationship between them—the concentration, the movement of the bows, and the way individual musicians come together to create one shared sound.
The title Wild and Sweet captures what I love about these moments. There is the energy and unpredictability of children learning and performing, but also something wonderfully tender about watching them listen to one another, follow their teacher, and grow through music.
As a parent, these performances became moments I wanted to hold onto. The concert ends, the children grow, and life moves forward, but the memory remains.
