There are moments during a live performance that exist for only a few seconds, but somehow stay with us long after the music ends.
This painting was inspired by Handel’s Messiah at Edmonton’s Winspear Centre in December 2024. I wanted to capture one particular moment from the perspective of the stage—the performers, the audience beyond, the light, and the incredible space all becoming part of the experience.
I love painting the arts because there is so much more happening than what we hear or see. There is the anticipation, the connection between performers and audience, and the feeling of hundreds of people sharing the same moment together.
For me, this painting is about trying to hold onto something that was never meant to last. The music moves on, the performance ends, and everyone eventually goes home—but for that moment, we were all there together.
