There is something about seeing Edmonton from a different perspective that makes me notice the city all over again.

This painting was inspired by a view from Old Strathcona looking toward downtown Edmonton. I loved the contrast between the colourful homes and green spaces in the foreground and the familiar city skyline rising in the distance—the Stantec Tower, the Alberta Legislature and the buildings that have become part of our everyday view.

I used expressive linework, texture and vibrant colour to capture the energy I feel in this part of the city. I wasn't interested in recreating every building or street exactly as it appeared. I wanted to paint Edmonton as it felt to me—lively, colourful, growing and full of movement.

For me, this piece is a celebration of the different layers of our city: the neighbourhoods where we live, the green spaces woven between them, and the downtown skyline that reminds us we are home.
