There is something special about being in the mountains in spring, when the landscape is beginning to change and come alive again after winter.

Grotto Canyon in the Spring was inspired by exploring Grotto Canyon near Canmore during this in-between season. I was drawn to the rugged rock, the changing colours, and the little signs of new life beginning to appear throughout the landscape.

I wanted to capture that feeling of freshness and possibility through vibrant colour, expressive brushwork, and line—not simply what the canyon looked like, but what it felt like to be there as the season was changing.

For me, this painting is about those moments when we can actually see nature beginning again.

This 12 × 24 inch original painting on cradled wood is a little piece of an Alberta spring in the Rockies—a reminder of mountain adventures, changing seasons, and the beauty of new beginnings.
