There are times when the sky feels heavy, but we keep standing anyway.
Hold the Line was inspired by a quiet Alberta prairie evening with a storm lingering at the edge of the landscape. I was drawn to that contrast—the stillness of the land beneath a sky that feels like something is coming.
For me, this painting became about more than the prairie. It is about standing firm in the things we believe in and care deeply about. As teachers, artists, parents, friends, and members of our communities, there are moments when we have to keep showing up, even when it isn't easy.
I wanted the openness of the prairie and the weight of the approaching storm to hold that feeling—the uncertainty, but also the strength underneath it.
