I Am Grateful for This Day was inspired by a drive home near Red Deer at the end of June. The prairie fields stretched out around us and above them was one of those enormous Alberta skies that makes me want to keep looking.
As we drove, I remember feeling incredibly grateful—not only for the beautiful landscape in front of me, but for my family and the simple fact that we were there experiencing it together.
I used bold colour and expressive brushwork to capture the energy and openness of the prairie and the sky as I remember them. For me, this painting isn't about a grand moment. It is about recognizing, right in the middle of an ordinary day, that there is already so much to be thankful for.
