In the Middle of It All was inspired by a view through the side mirror—the sunset glowing behind me while the road continued ahead.
There is something about looking in a mirror while travelling that makes me think about time. We can slow down or wish we could stay in a moment a little longer, but staying still doesn't actually pause anything. Time keeps passing. Life keeps happening.
We have to keep moving, even when moving forward feels hard.
I created this piece with needle felting, using layers of fibre, colour, and texture to capture the softness of the sunset and that fleeting view in the mirror.
For me, In the Middle of It All is about being exactly there—in the middle of where we've been and wherever we're going next. The past is still visible behind us, but the road continues forward.
