Sometimes strength doesn't come after the storm has passed. Sometimes we find it while we are still right in the middle of it.
Rising Strength was inspired by that feeling—the dark, heavy clouds still overhead while light begins to appear in the distance. I wanted the sky to hold both at once: the weight of what we are moving through and the possibility of what might be ahead.
For me, this painting is about resilience and becoming. We don't always recognize our own strength while we are struggling. Often, it is being built quietly as we keep going, even when we aren't sure what comes next.
I used sweeping brushstrokes, layers of texture, and the contrast between darkness and light to capture that movement through the storm.
Rising Strength is a reminder I think we all need sometimes: you don't have to wait until you reach the other side to recognize how far you've already come.
