Part of my For the Love of the Arts series, In Our Own Sweet Time was inspired by seeing Vance Joy perform live at Edmonton’s Winspear Centre. Standing among the crowd as the stage filled with warm light and music, I was reminded that some of life’s most meaningful moments can’t be rushed—they simply unfold when we’re present enough to receive them.

This painting captures more than a concert. It reflects the feeling of sharing music with strangers who, for one evening, become a community. The lights, the songs, and the quiet anticipation between each note created a space where time seemed to slow, inviting us to simply be there together.
