There is something about the moment before a performance begins—the audience settles in, the lights dim, and you know you are about to be taken somewhere else.
Fringe: The Moment Before was inspired by seeing Alice by Heart at the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. I wanted to capture that feeling of anticipation from the audience: the stage waiting, people gathered together, and all the energy that exists just before the story begins.
For me, this piece is also a celebration of Edmonton’s arts community and the experiences we share when we show up to support live theatre.
This 8 × 10 inch fine art paper print is a little piece of Fringe to bring home—a reminder of summer in Old Strathcona, live performance, and the magic of waiting for the curtain to rise.
