There is something about Maligne Canyon that keeps pulling me back. I have walked its trails many times, and each part of the canyon offers a different view and a different feeling.
Between the Maligne Bridges was inspired by one of those moments along the trail—the rushing water below, layers of rock, towering trees, and the feeling of being completely surrounded by Jasper.
I chose an 18-inch round surface for this painting because I love how the circular shape draws you into the landscape. There is no obvious beginning or end, much like the experience of wandering through the canyon itself.
For me, this painting is about everything that happens between destinations. We often remember the bridge, the waterfall, or the lookout, but there is so much beauty in the spaces between them if we take the time to notice.
