In Your Own Sweet Time is part of my ongoing exploration of painting Alberta’s landscapes onto glazed ceramic, inspired once again by the timeless beauty of Maligne Canyon.
This piece reflects the gentle reminder that nature never rushes. Water has spent thousands of years carving its way through limestone, creating one of Alberta’s most breathtaking landscapes—not all at once, but slowly, patiently, and persistently. There is a quiet wisdom in that process.
Creating on ceramic mirrors this same idea. The image evolves through layers of glaze, then transforms in the kiln in ways that cannot be fully predicted or controlled. It asks me to trust the process, to let go of perfection, and to embrace what emerges. Every firing leaves its own unique mark, making each piece truly one of a kind.
For me, In Your Own Sweet Time is about more than Maligne Canyon. It is about growth, healing, and creativity—each unfolding in its own season. Like the canyon itself, the most meaningful transformations often happen gradually, shaped by time and experience rather than urgency.
I hope this piece serves as a gentle reminder to slow down, trust your own path, and remember that some of life’s most beautiful destinations are formed one small moment at a time.
