When I returned to Jasper after the wildfire, I found myself looking at the trees differently.
Some were completely blackened by fire. Others had survived, their pale trunks standing alongside the burned ones. And underneath them, the forest floor was already full of colour and new growth.
I was struck by how all of it existed together.
There was no hiding what had happened. The burned trees were still there, standing among those that survived. But beyond and beneath them were layers of green, gold and new life, with the mountains still quietly present in the distance.
That contrast is what I wanted to paint.
After Everything isn't about returning Jasper to what it was before. It's about seeing what is here now—what survived, what was changed, and what has begun to grow after everything.
There is loss in this landscape, but there is beauty here too. Just a different kind.
