From memory - Ceramic glazed image - 4x6 frame

$145.00

From Memory continues my exploration of painting Alberta’s landscapes directly onto glazed ceramic, using Maligne Canyon as both my inspiration and my starting point.

Unlike painting from a photograph, this piece was created from the memories that remain after many visits to the canyon. It is not intended to be an exact representation of the landscape, but rather an impression of what stayed with me—the winding water, weathered stone, shifting light, and the quiet feeling of standing within one of Alberta’s most remarkable places.

Working with glaze on ceramic invites an element of unpredictability. As the piece moves through the kiln, the colours soften, blend, and transform, creating textures and movement that mirror the ever-changing nature of the canyon itself. I have come to appreciate this balance between intention and surprise, allowing the material to become part of the creative process.

From Memory reflects my belief that the places we love are carried with us long after we leave them. While landscapes may change over time, the memories they create continue to shape us. This ceramic piece is an invitation to revisit those places—not exactly as they were, but as we remember them.
