When I returned to Jasper after the wildfire, I knew the landscape would look different. What I didn’t expect was how much more of the land I would be able to see.
Without the dense forest that once filled these spaces, there are layers of the landscape that had always been hidden from view. Burned trunks still stand, while others have been cut down and cleared where they were no longer safe. Around them, grasses, wildflowers and new growth are already filling the open spaces with colour.
I kept thinking about all the work that has happened here—not only what nature is doing on its own, but the work of the people who have made these places safe enough for us to return, walk the trails and experience Jasper again.
There is so much evidence of what was lost, but everywhere I looked there was also evidence of what is coming next.
Making the Way Back is about both.
The landscape is changing. Life is returning. And slowly, we are finding our way back into it too.
