Visions of You marks the beginning of a new direction in my artistic practice—painting directly onto glazed ceramic. Inspired by the beauty and resilience of Maligne Canyon, this piece combines my love of Alberta’s landscapes with an exploration of a new surface and process.
Working on ceramic challenged me to think differently. The glaze flows, shifts, and transforms during firing, creating unexpected textures and depth that cannot be achieved on canvas. Rather than controlling every detail, I learned to embrace the collaboration between artist, material, and kiln.
Maligne Canyon has long been a place of personal significance for me. It is a landscape woven into many of my memories, and following the Jasper wildfires, it has taken on an even deeper meaning. This small piece is less about documenting the canyon and more about holding onto the feeling of being there—the cool water, the towering rock walls, and the quiet moments of reflection that remain with us long after we leave.
As the first work in this new ceramic series, Visions of You represents both a familiar place and a new creative journey. It is a reminder that even as landscapes change, the memories they leave with us continue to shape who we are.
